Welcome to our Website
We are a Co-educational Catholic Primary Country School founded in 1915 on the outskirts of Abbeyfeale town
on the foothills of the Mullaghareirk Mountains.
Meenkilly N.S. is a Catholic school which aims to nurture and cherish the uniqueness of each individual while
providing a well-ordered, caring, happy and secure atmosphere. We strive to provide a holistic approach in
developing each child’s full potential, while respecting the culture and religion of all.
Left to right: Bernie Leonard (Teacher), Fr. Joe Foley (on behalf of the Board of Management) and
Marian Roche (on behalf of Meenkilly Card Game Committee).
Marian Roche on behalf of Meenkilly Card Game Committee recently presented a new whiteboard to the school.
In 1996, Meenkilly School was the first school in the area to possess a computer, thanks to Mossie Brouder
and others who organised the collection of scarp cars in a County Council competition, and won 1st prize of
a computer. Meenkilly N.S. is now the first school in the area to possess a new-generation touch-screen whiteboard.
We are a five teacher school with three mainstream class teachers. We have one SNA and a part-time Secretary.
The school has been updated and extended in 2012. We have two new state of the art mainstream classrooms with a brand
new Special Education Suite. All three mainstream classrooms are complete with interactive whiteboards.
The Special education suite comprises of two new rooms, a Learning Support Room and a Resource Room. We have a communal
library and a small General Purpose Hall. We have a committed and dedicated board of management, parents association
and active students council. Our outdoor facilities include a basketball court/soccer grounds and a school garden.
Also on our campus is a bright and interactive pre-school.
All school policies can be found in the Downloads section of this website.
