Active School Slogan

We worked together as a school and agreed an Active School Slogan. The outcome of the whole school competition was:

‘Let’s get actice, Let’s get fit,

We can do it bit by bit’

1st and 2nd class edited Shakira’s song ‘This Time for Africa’ to incorporate our Active Slogan.

Active School Committee

Our Active School Committee have played an important role in this process from the start. We have selected children from 1st class to 6th class.  Our Active Committee members have begun meetings and they discuss lots of things. They have already proved themselves to be active, inspirational leaders. The committee meet regularly to create new initiatives and discuss the best ways of making our school more active.

The main aims of the Active School Committee:

  • Get feedback from every class in the school on how to make our school more active
  • Help children be more active. It is recommended that children have at least 60 minutes of activity every day.
  • Organise our PE storeroom
  • Help with an inventory of new equipment needed
  • Help to organise playground games
  • Make sure we have fun while getting more active.
  • Create a Club Survey of Meenkilly School
  • Help to organise Active Schools Week
ASC leading the whole school in our morning exercises for Active Schools Week
ASF committee leading the morning exercises.

Club Survey- What Clubs are you in?

We conducted a What clubs are you in? survey to find out about the physical activity opportunities in the local community.

School Community Link

Meenkilly NS works closely with a number of sporting organisations within the local community whilst working toward our active school flag. This year we had coaching from the GAA, FAI and local hurling Club.

G.A.A.

Limerick G.A.A. provided us with a football coach to come and help the pupils develop their skills.

The children loved to see our coach Josh coming each week. They always had fantastic fun and made great progress through all the football skills.

F.A.I. - Soccer Coaching

Our school this year partnered with local F.A.I. to provide the pupils in our school with soccer coaching with Cian O’Sullivan for 4 weeks.

Hurling

Cycling Safety Programme.
