Christmas at Meenkilly National School

Santa Dash concludes with Special Guests!

As part of our Active Schools Programme and in anticipation of the school holidays, the students of Meenkilly dressed up in Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and hi-vis for some “Santa Dash” fun. This involved walking, jogging and singing Christmas Carols around the Caher ring. On returning to school, the children were delighted to greet the surprise visitors – Mr. and Mrs. Claus! They took time out of their busy schedule to wish all the boys and girls a “Happy Christmas” before dancing a jig and a waltz to the delight of everyone.

Christmas Jumper Day 2021

We celebrated Christmas Jumper Day on Friday December 12th.  Students and staff were invited to make donations of 2 euro, raising an amazing €400 in aid of Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital. Well done to all!

Advent 2021

Advent is about preparing and getting ready to celebrate the Christmas season. There are many preparations for Christmas underway by the children in Meenkilly.

The advent wreath reminds us of the four weeks of Advent. The three purple candles remind us that Advent is a time of hope, preparation and peace. The pink candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent. This is “Gaudete Sunday’ which means rejoice. We have been lighting Advent candles in our classrooms every week. The Jesse Tree helps us to prepare for Christmas by connecting the symbols of the tree to stories from the Bible.

In every classroom, a Holy Crib and the children’s Christmas art has been displayed to remind us of the Nativity Story. The boys and girls are also enjoying the singing of Christmas hymns and carols in anticipation of the Christmas season.
