We are incredibly proud to announce that the Meenkilly Girls Football Team has made school history by winning the Cumann na mBunscol West Championship for the very first time!

All 16 girls on the panel played their part in this unforgettable achievement, showing outstanding teamwork, determination, and the skills they have worked so hard to develop in training. Their commitment, spirit, and never-give-up attitude shone through in every match.

A huge thank you to our coaching team – Michael Lennihan, Shane Gleeson, and Sheila Naughton – for their dedication, guidance, and encouragement throughout the season. The pupils are truly fortunate to have such a committed group supporting them. A special mention must go to Michael, whose years of hard work, energy, and commitment to both the girls’ and boys’ teams have made a lasting impact on football in Meenkilly.

Huge congratulations to our captain, Maria, who led her team with confidence and heart, and who delivered a fantastic speech when accepting the winning shield. A proud moment for her, for the team, and for the whole school community.

This is a tremendous milestone for Meenkilly National School. On their return to school, they got an hero’s welcome with huge cheering from all the pupils in the school, a day that will be remembered for many years to come. Well done to all involved—history has been made!
