Day 3 Active Schools Week – Sports Day

What an action-packed day we had at Meenkilly NS for Sports Day as part of Active Schools Week! The sun made a few welcome appearances, and thankfully, the weather stayed dry — perfect for a fun-filled day of activity.

Pupils, preschoolers, parents, and staff all joined in on the excitement. Events included classic favourites like running races, egg and spoon, three-legged races, and much more and finished on a high with the much-anticipated tug of war, which brought out great team spirit and lots of laughs!

We were especially delighted to welcome Áine, our rugby coach, who gave her time and energy to run a tag rugby station. Her dedication was greatly appreciated, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the session. Míle buíochas, Áine!

The children made the most of our fantastic facilities — from the football pitch and basketball court to the Astro turf and two play tunnels. Every space was alive with energy and joy.

A special thank you to Múinteoir Kelley, who treated every pupil (and the attending parents!) to delicious ice creams — a perfect way to cool down after all the activity.

Meenkilly National School would like to extend a sincere thank you to Shane O’Connor of Feale Fit for his continued support.

This year, Shane generously sponsored brilliant new sacks for our sack race, which were a huge hit at our Sports Day — tested and enjoyed by both young and old! He also kindly loaned us the long jump mat and the ever-popular tug-of-war rope, adding great fun to the day.

Shane’s generosity and support mean so much to our school community. Thank you, Shane, we truly appreciate all you do.

We are so grateful to all the parents who took time out to join us. Your enthusiasm and participation — especially in the tug of war, sack race, and long jump — made the day extra special.

A great day was had by all. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir!
