A Warm Welcome Back to Ger and His Farmyard Friends.

Meenkilly National School was filled with excitement and laughter on Friday as we welcomed back Ger’s Mobile Pet Farm for another fantastic visit. The regular event has quickly become a favourite among students and staff, and this year was no exception.

The children had a wonderful time getting up close and personal with a wide range of animals. Gentle kittens, soft rabbits, and curious hens were a delight to hold and cuddle. Students also enjoyed walking the friendly farm dog and even had a chance to lead the calm and patient pony around the school grounds. Feeding time brought more smiles, as the children eagerly fed the sheep, goats and even a young calf. The visit ended on a high-energy note with a lively runaround — led by none other than a noisy and very entertaining piglet!

Animal interactions like these are more than just fun. They play a meaningful role in children’s development, encouraging empathy, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. For many children, time with animals can be calming, confidence-building, and joyful — all important elements of healthy emotional growth.

One of the highlights of the day was the cheeky hens, who stole the show by laying eggs right on the children’s laps — but only if the singing was up to scratch! With plenty of giggles and some surprisingly tuneful voices, the children serenaded the hens into action, making it a moment they won’t soon forget.

A huge thank you to Ger for another successful visit.
