At Meenkilly National School, we are very fortunate to have our own Walkway on the school grounds. This safe and accessible route gives pupils the chance to enjoy fresh air and exercise as part of their school day.
The Walkway is used in many different ways—class walks, Active Breaks, nature trails, and even themed activities such as Irish riddles or maths trails. It is a fantastic resource that supports both learning and wellbeing.
Benefits of the Walkway for our pupils:
- Physical Health: Regular walking helps to build stamina, strengthen muscles, and promote lifelong fitness.
- Mental Wellbeing: Spending time outdoors reduces stress, boosts mood, and improves concentration in class.
- Social Skills: Walking together encourages conversation, teamwork, and positive friendships.
- Learning Opportunities: The Walkway provides a space for outdoor lessons, from science observations to literacy trails.
- Connection with Nature: Pupils develop an appreciation of the outdoors and the beautiful environment around our school.
The Meenkilly NS Walkway is more than just a path—it’s a space for movement, learning, and fun that benefits every child in our school.
