Today marked the exciting beginning of Active Schools Week here at Meenkilly, and what a fantastic start it was! From the moment the bell rang, the children were up and moving, led by our enthusiastic Active Schools Week Committeewith a morning exercise session to get everyone energized for the day ahead.

A highlight for pupils in 3rd to 6th class was bringing their bikes to school and cycling a scenic stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. Dressed in high-visibility jackets, safety was a top priority as the children pedaled along with their friends, enjoying the fresh air and stunning views.

Taking full advantage of the dry weather, the entire school headed out for a walk around the Caher Ring. This special outing saw 3rd and 4th class pupils buddying up with Junior and Senior Infants, while 5th and 6th class paired with 1st and 2nd class. The walk turned into a joyful opportunity for pupils to chat, share stories, and build new friendships across age groups — a true highlight of the day.

Back on the school grounds, our sports tournaments got underway with great excitement. Junior Infants to 2nd class kicked off their soccer tournament, while 3rd to 6th class began their football tournament. Each team proudly chose their own name and showed wonderful teamwork, dedication, and school spirit on the pitch.

It’s safe to say Meenkilly has started Active Schools Week with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles. Well done to all the children and staff for making it such a memorable day!
