Day 2 of Meenkilly National School’s Active School Week was full of energy, excitement, and lots of movement—despite the rainy start!

The morning began with grey skies, but that didn’t dampen spirits. Pupils got their bodies moving indoors with some fun exercises and dancing to music. It was the perfect warm-up to kick off another action-packed day.

Outdoors, the Fifth and Sixth Class pupils represented the school in a fantastic Rugby Blitz at Abbeyfeale Rugby Club. After six weeks of learning and practising tag rugby, they finally got the chance to put their skills into action. The matches highlighted not only their improved ball-handling and teamwork but also their sportsmanship and team spirit. It was a proud moment for the school!

Back on campus, the Junior Infants to Second Class pupils brought colour and smiles to the yard as they scooted, biked, and pedalled tractors around the school grounds. Each class enjoyed a full half-hour session of movement, showcasing their favourite wheels. The older pupils even had a chance to swap their rides and join in the fun!

Meanwhile, Third and Fourth Class impressed everyone by designing and setting up a fantastic obstacle course. With activities like limbo, hopping, skipping, shooting penalties, and hitting targets, the course offered a challenge for all ages. Every class took part, and the yard was buzzing with laughter, determination, and enthusiasm.

Day 2 was another great success at Meenkilly NS as pupils of all ages got moving, had fun, and supported each other in staying active. We’re already looking forward to what Day 3 – Sports Day – at Meenkilly School.
