Our Active School Committee (ASC) plays a very important role in promoting sport and physical activity throughout the school. Recently, the committee carried out our Schools’ Club Survey, an initiative designed to discover what sports and clubs our pupils take part in outside of school.
The survey gave us a fantastic insight into the wide range of activities our pupils enjoy, from GAA, soccer, rugby and basketball, to swimming, dancing, athletics, martial arts, horse riding and more. It highlighted just how active our pupils are in their communities and how sport is such an important part of their lives.
Why We Do the Schools’ Club Survey
The purpose of the survey is to:
- Recognise and celebrate the huge variety of sports our pupils are involved in.
- Strengthen links with local clubs, showing pupils how their school and community work together.
- Encourage participation by showing children the many opportunities available.
- Support inclusion, ensuring every child finds a sport or activity they enjoy.
What We Learned
The Active School Committee members enjoyed gathering the information and were amazed at the variety of activities represented. They also created charts and posters to display the results around the school, so everyone could see just how active Meenkilly NS pupils are.
The ASC were proud to see how much sport and physical activity is valued by our pupils and their families, and the survey will help guide our future Active School initiatives.
At Meenkilly NS, we are proud to be a school where every child has the chance to be active, healthy, and happy both inside and outside the classroom.
